Bhajani, January 5: Finance Minister Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada has said only revenue collection is not enough for the country’s prosperity. “The country’s prosperity depends on production in addition to revenue collection,” he said while opening Satti Customs Office here on Friday (January 3). Minister Dr. Khatiwada said, “We are becoming self-reliant on energy. Government is striving to become self-reliant on agriculture. Currently, the country is in need of foreign aid.

” He expressed worry why the dispute erupted on foreign aid to Nepal on various pretexts while the government has regarded foreign aid as a base of country’s development. According to him, the present government has given special priority to the social security program. Health insurance program would be reached to all 77 districts in two years, and literate Nepal declared in a year, he further said. Sudur Paschim State, Karnali State and State 2 which are backward in the development index have been given priority for the infrastructure developments, which he said, would help accelerate development. He further claimed that acute poverty would be wiped out soon.

He said it during a meeting with a delegation led by Chairman of Nepal Chamber of Commerce, Rajesh Kaji Shrestha at his office, Singha Durbar, on Friday.

“The exportable goods should be diversified,” he said, pointing out the need of promotional activities at market levels. On the occasion, Chairman Shrestha made aware the Minister that the Financial Act must not curtail the incentives provided by the Industrial Entrepreneurs Act. He showed concern over multiple taxes at the local level, saying it spoiled the environment for entrepreneurship. RSS
