Kathmandu, December 10 : Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has reiterated that government would effectively implement its campaign of zero tolerance against corruption.
During a programme organized by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on the occasion of the International Anti-Corruption Day here on December 9 , PM Oli urged all to stop involving in corruption because it makes people dishonest and unconvincing.
He however wondered, “It’s surprising when none speaks for corruption; talks of zero tolerance; but how uncontrollable the corruption is here; how alarming it is.”
Corruption, as he said, is the obstruction to prosperity and good governance. “Nepal has been assisting in the common endeavour of global fight against corruption initiated by the UN,” he reminded.
According to him, it would be difficult to eradicate corruption if people do not control themselves with morality, honesty and adherence to the law.
He called on everyone not to speak false on corruption.
The PM directed the civil servants attending the programme not to be swayed after nepotism, favouratism, political party and groups but stand firm for transparency and rule of law.
The government is active to control corruption. “To curb corruption, even the officials leading the anti-graft institutions must be clean. I’ve fulfilled my first resolution that I don’t involve in corruption. Now, I’m effortful to fulfill the next resolution of controlling others from corruption,” he reminded.
He however claimed that the CIAA was currently working to end irregularities in a positive way.
On a different note, he viewed it was very favourable time at present for country’s development and prosperity.
On the occasion, CIAA Chief Commissioner, Nabin Ghimire, said concrete and meaningful efforts were imperative from State sides for good governance in the country.
Chief Secretary Lokdarshan Regmi directed the civil servants to work in a way that preserves discretion and justice.
Transparency International Nepal’s Chairman Khemraj Regmi viewed corruption was spread as epidemic across the globe, so all stakeholders should be united to fight irregularities.
