Travelers will soon be able to fly directly between Pokhara and Australia, as Sichuan Airlines of China is set to launch international services from Pokhara International Airport.
The airline has applied for approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) to operate flights to Australia via Chengdu. According to CAAN’s information officer Gyanendra Bhol, preparations are underway to grant permission once the required procedures are complete.
Sichuan Airlines plans to begin operations this September. “Bilateral discussions are ongoing to finalize the process, and the airline will soon submit its flight schedule,” Bhol said.
The Chinese carrier, which had previously operated chartered flights to Pokhara, now aims to run regular scheduled flights with Australia as a new destination. Sichuan Airlines is the largest airline in Western China, headquartered in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.
This development is expected to boost tourism and connectivity, strengthening Pokhara’s position as an emerging international aviation hub.
