Kathmandu, December 26: The Society of Economic Journalists Nepal (SEJON), which had started a study on the impact created by post-quake reconstructions on the country’s economy, made public a preliminary report amid a program here Wednesday (Dec 25). There is a positive contribution of the post-quake reconstructions to the country’s economy, according to the report.
Gross domestic product has increased to 4.5 percent following the post-quake reconstructions, said Chief Executive Officer for the National Reconstruction Authority, Sushil Gyawali, adding, it, however, requires additional research for more details. “Around 600,000 workers are engaged in the reconstruction of damaged private houses at the local level, and the expenditure from the private sector reached approximately Rs 600 billion. This has made the country’s economy dynamic,” he said.
On the occasion, former chief executive officer at the NRA, Prof Dr. Gobinda Raj Pokharel, stressed the need to conduct an in-depth research into the country’s GDP increment by following the reconstructions, and its impacts. Likewise, former member of the National Planning Commission Dr. Gobinda Nepal underscored the need to think about the future of workers engaging in the reconstructions after the reconstructions is over.
