The government has increased the price of milk. The cabinet meeting held on Monday fixed the price of milk at Rs 56 per liter. Earlier, the price was Rs 49.52.
Farmers have been demanding price hikes for a long time saying that the cost of milk production has gone up. According to a minister who participated in the meeting, the government has increased the price as per the demand of farmers.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development was pressured by the Central Dairy Cooperative Union Limited to increase the cost of milk.
As per the suggestion of the study committee formed after that, the ministry has submitted a proposal to the Council of Ministers to increase the price.
The price had not been adjusted for two and a half years. Earlier, price adjustment was done every year.
