The government has increased the price of sugarcane.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Wednesday fixed the support price of sugarcane at Rs 590 per quintal.
The price submitted by the Ministry of Agriculture through the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply has been approved by the Council of Ministers.
Its price is about Rs 46 more than last year. The government had fixed the sugarcane’s price at Rs 544.33 per quintal for the last fiscal year 2077/78.
But this time the farmers were demanding Rs 650 per quintal.
Out of the fixed support price of Rs. 590, the industrialists will provide Rs. 520 to the farmers and the government will provide Rs. 70.
