Kathmandu, June 20: Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, has said that the government’s goal of promoting export along with replacement of import would be fulfilled with the initiative of the private sector.
Minister Gyawali said that the role of the private sector would be crucial to increase export at a time when the country exports only 170 types of goods to Germany and imports 900 types of goods from there. At the 25th annual general assembly of the Nepal-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he reiterated that the state has given high priority for the promotion of the private sector.
On the occasion, the Foreign Minister expressed commitment that the government would always play the role of facilitator by promoting national enterprises. Saying six-decade-long diplomatic relations between Nepal and Germany is based on harmony, cooperation, he said that Germany has been supporting Nepal’s economic development giving it high importance. Foreign Minister Gyawali called on the private sector to involve in sustainable development, saying the government was active to give pace to industrial development.
Similarly, President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Bhawani Rana, said that investors of Europe were excited to invest in hydropower, tourism and infrastructure sectors. Rana shared that the entrepreneurs in Germany had enthusiastically had shared their concerns and inquired about Nepal and its prospects of foreign investment in the recent Europe trip of PM Oli.
The German entrepreneurs were urged to consider investment in Nepal without any fear since the Nepali delegation had ensured them of the investment-friendly environment that was enabled in Nepal. German Ambassador to Nepal Roland Schafer said that skills development was equally essential as vocational education for the Nepalis and underscored the need for the Nepali entrepreneurs to learn from the Chamber of Commerce of various countries.
Likewise, former Nepali Ambassador to Germany Madan Kumar Bhattarai opined that foreign investment could be attracted to Nepal if bureaucratic delays were ended in Nepal. Association’s Chairperson Sinon Dorji Lama pledged to prod the German entrepreneurs to invest in Nepal. A new 11-member executive committee led by Anup Malla has been chosen in the general assembly.
