Kathmandu, October 14: In line with the decision of India to switch to the Bharat Stage (BS) VI standard petroleum products, Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) is also planning to distribute the same in the domestic market.
The Indian government is opting for the Bharat Stage (BS) VI standard petroleum products, which is equivalent to the Euro VI standard, by substituting BS-IV from April next year.
Since Nepal solely imports petroleum products from India, the supply of BS-VI in the latter’s market also means the same in the former’s one.
Since July 2017, the NOC have been supplying Euro IV standard fuel in the domestic market like in India.
As the northern neighbour is switching directly to Euro VI standard fuel from Euro IV standard by bypassing Euro V standard, Nepal is also doing the same.
Fuel of Euro VI standard is regarded to be environment-friendly and vital to curb vehicular pollution. Emissions from petrol and diesel with Euro VI specifications contain low amount of sulphur, hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and other particulate matters, helping to control pollution.
Euro VI standard petroleum
products will be a bit costlier compared
to the price of Euro IV petroleum products.
The NOC will make Euro VI standard petroleum products publicly available from April next year. However, it has already allowed customers who consume fuel in high quantity to import the Euro VI standard fuel from India.
