Sugarcane farmers have yet to receive their payment albeit with frequent directives of the parliamentary committee to the government to clear the dues of sugarcane.
Different sugar manufacturing industries have yet to pay the dues to the farmers. In today’s meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) under the House of Representatives, Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies Dinesh Bhattarai shared that the industries are still obliged to clear the dues of Rs 87 million of sugarcane farmers.
Last year the payment due was around Rs 1.4 billion. “With government directive, the payment ratio is increasing. Compared to last year, the payment this year has gone up”, he shared, adding that they have been coordinating through the ministry of finance, land reform, and home.
He further informed that a directive was given to the local administration through the Ministry of Home Affairs for the settlement of dues.
