Kathmandu, November 22 : The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is going to import up to 250 megawatt of electricity from India so as to avoid the problem of power shortage during the winter. The water levels in the rivers tend to recede especially during the months of January, February and March, thus leading to the lesser generation of power by the hydro power projects.
The Authority’s Executive Director Hitendra Dev Shakya shares that the Indian government has approved the request on the part of the Nepali government to provide the electricity from December 1, 2020 to June next year.
Earlier, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Barshaman Pun, who also chairs NEA’s Board of Directors, had directed the NEA to continuously ensure smooth supply of electricity to its consumers.
