Rupandehi, September 24: The business fraternity has urged the government to come up with policies and programs in a way that encourages investors. In view of enabling an environment for investment in the country, they called for all three tiers of the governments to collaborate with the private sector in the areas of industry and tourism.

At the 66th general meeting of Butwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry Rupandehi held yesterday, the private sector representatives suggested the government to classify the business and industry as it seems implementation of contribution-based social security fund is practically difficult.

Inaugurating the general meeting, State-5 Minister for Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment Leela Giri stressed the need for partnership between government and private sector to take ahead the agenda of prosperity. “The government could not take stride without the strong backing of the private sector. Hence, it necessitates collaboration and co-creation between the government and private sector”, Minster Giri asserted.

He expressed his confidence that the country’s development would gain momentum with the stable government in place. He also shared the ongoing efforts of the State government to resume the operation of Motipur Industrial Corridor of Rupandehi, Sunawal Sugar Mill and Butwal Dhago Karkhana. State Assembly members Nirmala Chhetri and Krishna Neupane said there was no alternative but to build strong collaboration between the government and private sector for development and prosperity.

Former Chair of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Chandiraj Dhakal criticized the government for not consulting with the private sector while framing laws. He noted that it resulted in the weaker implementation of laws. FNCCI’s senior vice-president Shekhar Golchha urged the state government and local governments to enable investment-friendly climate in view of emerging new dimensions in the industrial and tourism development following the operation of Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa.

Butwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chair Khim Bahadur Hamal urged the government to include the space of the private sector in its plan and program. He also called for the state government to finalize the name and headquarters of the state as the business and industry community was univocal in naming the state as Lumbini and Rupandehi as the state headquarters. The general meeting posthumously feted FNCCI Butwal Chapter’s press advisor the late Dialson Adhikari. Minister Giri and Hamal jointly handed a letter of appreciation with cash Rs 555,555 to the late Dialson’s wife Chanda Adhikari. RSS
