Lamjung, October 14: The construction works of the Upper Dordi ‘A’ Hydroelectricity Project situated at Dhodeni of the Dordi rural municipality-6 in the district have come to a halt. This happened after 27 employees related to the project were found to have contracted coronavirus on Tuesday evening (October 13).
The project’s official Rajendra Wosti said the works have to be stopped due to the increased risk of coronavirus infection and also for lack of enough number of workers.
The Dordi ‘A’ hydroelectricity project with the capacity of generating 25 megawatts power is promoted by Liberty Energy Hydropower.
To date, most of the structures of the project, except the powerhouse, have been built. This represents 98 percent of its total construction. But, the detection of COVID-19 among the related employees has made it impossible to meet the set target of generating power in December this year.
In fact, the project, which was started in 2014, was already delayed in the past too. Owing to the Gorkha Earthquake of 2015, the deadline for completing it by 2017 could not be achieved.
It is estimated the construction cost of the project would now exceed by Rs 676 million because of the repeated extension of its deadline. The initial calculated cost of the project was Rs 3 billion 960 million. Now it is estimated to be around Rs 4 billion 636 million.
