Six months after severe floods heavily damaged the BP Highway, the government has called for tenders to begin reconstruction.
The floods in mid-September washed away nearly 12 kilometers of the highway, delaying reconstruction due to challenges in securing funding. On Wednesday, the Road Division Office, Sindhuli, invited bids for the first phase of reconstruction, covering a 5-kilometer stretch from Nepalthok to Shere Khola.
According to Engineer Sudarshan Upreti, interested contractors have 30 days to submit applications. After the deadline, technical and financial evaluations will be conducted, and the contract is expected to be finalized within two months. The government has allocated over Rs 1 billion for this section, with a completion timeline of two years.
Contracts for the remaining three sections will also be announced this week under the supervision of the Road Division Office in Bhaktapur. The government has allocated a total budget of Rs 8.5 billion for the complete reconstruction of the damaged highway.
