Nepal’s Government Expenditure Reaches NPR 1.5 Trillion in FY 2081/82

In fiscal year (FY) 2081/82, the Government of Nepal’s total expenditure amounted to NPR 1.508 trillion, up from NPR 1.408 trillion in FY 2080/81.

According to the presentation made at the annual progress review and performance agreement exchange program held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, current expenditure reached 85.95% of the target, equivalent to NPR 980.38 billion. Capital expenditure stood at 63.2% of the target, amounting to NPR 222.68 billion. Meanwhile, financial management expenditure reached 87.87% of the target, totaling NPR 320.04 billion.

Compared to FY 2080/81, current expenditure increased by 2.94%, while capital expenditure rose by 16.15% in FY 2081/82. Overall, 81.87% of the annual expenditure target was achieved.

In terms of revenue collection, tax revenue reached 81.75% of the annual target, and non-tax revenue achieved 95.45%, making total revenue collection 83.06% of the target. Total revenue stood at NPR 1.178 trillion in FY 2081/82, up 14.41% from NPR 1.030 trillion in the previous fiscal year. Tax revenue increased by 13.25%, and non-tax revenue surged by 28.8% compared to the previous year.

Total imports in FY 2081/82 were valued at NPR 1.804 trillion, while exports reached NPR 277.03 billion. This resulted in a trade deficit of NPR 1.527 trillion. Compared to the previous year, imports grew by 13.3%, and exports soared by 81.8%.
