Second International Plastic Products Expo kicks off

Kathmandu, October 6 : The second international plastic products exhibition has opened in the capital.
Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Matrika Prasad Yadav inaugurated the expo on Friday. The exhibition is organized by Plast Nepal Foundation.
On the occasion, he stressed on the need of promoting the re-use of plastic wares and goods. “Plastic scraps could be processed and used as road black topping material. The industrialists and the government could together discuss on this matter,” he suggested.
Industry Minister Yadav stressed on starting industries only after carrying out the feasibility study. Expressing happiness over Nepal achieving self-reliance in plastic products, he said the government was working to create conducive investment environment in the country.
Finance Minister Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada on the occasion advised consumers to reduce using plastic and be aware of the environmental consequences of using too much plastic. He said the government has given facilities to the plastic industries at a par with other industries and directed them to operate within the standard fixed by the government.
Senior vice-president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Shekhar Golchha, urged the government to bring a clear policy regarding the reuse and management of scarp plastic.
President of Confederationof Nepalese Industries (CNI), Haribhakta Khanal suggested to the government to create investment-friendly environment for attaining economic prosperity.
Foundation president SharadKumar Tibadewal said the exhibition was organized with the objective of providing information to the general public about the production of plastic ware and goods in Nepal. He said the exhibition will provide full information on the reuse, recycle and reduction of plastic materials.
The exhibition will run till October 7. Machines and equipments used by plastic industries, plastic wares and products, raw materials and chemicals used in producing plastic materials and plastic articles have been put on display at the exhibition.
Fifty billion rupees has been invested in plastic industries in the country and around 200 thousand people are employed in it, according to the Foundation. The plastic industries pay Rs 7 billion revenue to the government every year. RSS
