Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, who is on a visit to India on Friday, and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, are scheduled to inaugurate the event through a virtual medium.

According to the Nepal Electricity Authority, the project was completed only last month. NEA Executive Director Kulman Ghising is also scheduled to attend the Prime Minister’s visit to India.

The Solu Corridor 132 KV double circuit transmission line constructed to supply electricity to the national grid from the Solukhola Reservoir Hydropower Project has already been tested.

The construction of the transmission line, which was completed with the investment of the Government of Nepal and a concessional loan from Exim Bank of India, had to face many complications due to long disputes, the obstruction of locals, and problems in forest land use.

The length of the transmission line from Mirchaiya of Siraha to Tingla of Dudhkund Municipality of Solukhumbu via Udaipur and Okhaldhunga is 90 kilometers. There are 302 towers in the same transmission line.

Under the Solu Corridor Transmission Line Project, substations of 132/33 kV, 30 MVA and 33/11 kV, 8 MVA capacity have been constructed in Tingla. The substation has been completed and is operational from 7th September 2076. Electricity is being supplied to Solukhumbu, Okhaldhunga and Khotang from Tingla substation.

According to NEA Executive Director Kulman Ghising, the construction of the project was delayed due to a dispute over the selection of contractor, interim order of the Supreme Court, obstruction from locals demanding a change of route, and complicated geographical location.
