Thori in bid to expand tourism infrastructures

Ratnanagar, March 22 : In a bid to increase income by utilising local natural resources, Thori rural municipality has initiated developing tourism infrastructures.
Geographically connected to Chitwan National Park and Parsa National Park, the rural municipality has focused on tourism promotion activities since this year.
With this, the locals who had lost their lives and properties due to wild animal rampage are to shore up their income levels from tourism enterprises.
The rural municipality has started developing tourism infrastructures after Parsa National Park handed two elephants to the local government for promoting tourism through tusker riding.
Padma Lal Shrestha, Chairperson of Thori rural municipality, shared that they have allocated Rs 2 million in this fiscal for the construction of three roads for jeep and elephant riding in the national park.
He further shared that the eastern route from Gaduwa line post of Thori rural municipality to Rambagari Bhatha, the western route from Panityanki of Ward-4 to Rambagari Bhatha and another 16-km road from from Shikaribas-4 to Ichhanagar of Thori-2 are being repaired and constructed.
Chair Shrestha informed that the budgetary allocation was made for the construction of home stay in the rural municipality.
“We have started elephant riding now”, he said, adding that discussion is being held with the private sector for jeep safari. Most probably the jeep safari would start from next fiscal year (coming mid-July)”. Shrestha said.
The rural municipality has also floated a plan to connect the trekking route with Sauraha in near future”, he said, adding this would help make tourists’ stay longer.
The construction of well-equipped home stay targeting tourists has gained momentum in Thori of late. Chair Shrestha informed that the home stay are being built in line with the cultures of Tamang, Gurung and Magar.
Now there are over 50 home stay in the rural municipality which can accommodate 200 tourists daily. — RSS
