Nepal’s import, export and trade deficit has increased in the first eight months of the current fiscal year.
According to the latest data from the Customs Department, imports increased by 38.64 percent, exports by 82.90 percent and deficit by 34.50 percent.
According to the department, Nepal has exported goods worth Rs 147.74 billion in eight months by importing goods worth Rs 138.73 billion.
Accordingly, Nepal’s trade deficit has reached Rs. 1,160.98 billion.
In the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, Nepal had incurred a trade deficit of Rs. 863.20 billion by importing Rs. 943.98 billion and exporting Rs.
Similarly, Nepal’s foreign trade has also increased by 42.13 percent in the last eight months. During this period, the size of foreign trade has reached Rs. 1456.48 billion. In the last fiscal year, such size was Rs. 1024.76 billion.
The share of exports in total trade increased by 28.69 percent while the share of imports decreased by 2.45 percent, according to the department.
