Kathmandu, April 23 : The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has claimed that it made significant achievements in the reconstruction and rehabilitation tasks carried out the deadly earthquakes of April 25 and May 12, 2015.
Taking the quake disaster as an opportunity to work, we adopted the principle of ‘Build Back Better’. As a result, hundreds of thousands of earthquake-resilient structures have been resurrected in the 32 districts hit by the and many more are currently undergoing reconstruction,” claims a press release issued by the Authority.
Some of the major achievements made by the NRA in the reconstruction and rehabilitation, as enumerated by the release, are as below:

Out of 781,176 beneficiaries (who signed grant agreements with the government for rebuilding their houses), 494,044 (63%) have already rebuilt their houses while 190,145 (25%) are in the course of doing so. The number of beneficiaries approved for the third and final installment of the grant has reached 561,560 (72%).
– Out of the total of 7,553 schools damaged by the disaster, the reconstruction of 5,598 (74%) has been completed while 1,492 (20%) are in the process of getting rebuilt.

The NRA has said these achievements were made in the last four and half years despite various problems and challenges like political instability, blockade at southern borders, lack of human and financial resources, geographical remoteness, transition into the implementation of federalism etc.
The government has spent Rs. 381 billion in the post-earthquake reconstruction and rehabilitation until now. Of this total amount, Rs. 309 billion was arranged from the government and donor agencies and the remaining Rs. 72 million from various non-government organizations.
