Asian Regional Conference on Goats, 2019 taking place on October 20-23

September 23 : The Asian Regional Conference on Goats, 2019 is taking place on October 20-23 in Chitwan to be organized jointly by Faculty of Animal Science, Veterinary Science and Fisheries, Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU), Chitwan in collaboration with International Goat Association, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Nepal Agriculture Research Council, Food and Agricultural Organisation, Michigan State University, USA, ICAR/Central Institution for Research on Goats, Makhdoom, India, University Grants Commission, Bhaktapur, Nepal and Heifer International Nepal.

The theme of the conference is ‘Goats for food, nutrition and economic security in the developing world’ aiming to share and generate knowledge and establish a strong linkage among the scientists working in the field of goat research and development locally and globally.

Likewise, the conference has also along-term goal of establishing a national level, modern and scientific goat research and resource center under the AFU, Chitwan. Venue for the conference is the Convention Hall of AFU, Chitwan. Approximately 300 participants including scientists, academicians, researchers, entrepreneurs and students contributing significantly to goat research and development from around 15 countries including Nepal, India, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Cuba, USA, Canada, Italy, Japan, Hungary, Indonesia, France and Kenya will participate in the session, said associate professor Nirajan Bhattarai, member secretary of Asian Regional Conference on Goats, 2019.

The participants include Dr Beth Miler, President of IGA, Dr Lucia Sepe, Vice President, Dr Sandor Kukovics, Chairperson of the International Conference on Goats being organised in 2020 in Hungary, Prof, Dr Yingji Zhang, Dean of Animal Science and Technology, Hebei University China, Prof. Dr Yoshiaki Hayashi, Meijo University, Japan. Likewise, around 107 scientific papers (including three special, 14 invited keynotes, 38 oral and 42 posters) covering seven thematic areas such as ‘goat as a source of food and nutrition security’, ‘policy, socio-economic and value chain development, ‘goat husbandry management’, nutrition, ‘feeds and fodder management’, ‘phenomics, genomics, and biotechnology’, ‘goat health management and disease control’ and ‘advancement in goat product processing and quality control’ will also be presented.

Additionally, there will be two separate panel discussions among experts from different countries focusing on PPR, a worldwide challenge of goat farming, and gender role in livestock vaccine value chain development. RSS
