The Indian government has approved the supply of an additional 600 megawatts of electricity to Nepal through the Muzaffarpur-Dhalkebar transmission line. Until now, electricity from this line was available to Nepal only between 6 am and 5 pm.
With the new approval granted via the Indian Energy Exchange, the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has confirmed that the increased import will help reduce power outages, especially in the industrial sector.
As a result of this arrangement, Nepal is now able to import electricity from India for up to 15 hours a day, compared to the previous 12 hours. The NEA expects this added supply to ease electricity shortages and support industrial operations more effectively.
